Capoue: Scoring against Tottenham would be perfect

Watford midfielder Etienne Capoue says a goal against his old club Tottenham be a perfect moment.

Capoue struggled to make an impact in two seasons with Spurs between 2013 and 2015, starting just 19 top-flight games over the period.

However, the 28-year-old has impressed since signing for Watford last season and has been an ever-present in the Premier League this campaign, scoring five goals.

And he is now relishing the challenge to take on Tottenham at Vicarage Road.

They are such a good team it is so hard to play against them, they play very good football, Capoue said to Sky Sports.

They are my former club, I have to be focused on what I have to do for my new club. If I don t think about them, I will be lost in the game. They are my old team-m…

Muller hoping for Ancelotti effect in Champions League

Thomas Muller is hopeful that Carlo Ancelotti can work his magic in the Champions League with Bayern Munich this season.

Ancelotti has a proud history in Europe s premier competition having won the top prize twice as a player and lifted the Champions League three times as a coach twice with AC Milan and once with Real Madrid.

Bayern were Champions League victors in their treble-winning 2012-13 campaign under Jupp Heynckes, but fell in the semi-final stages in each of Pep Guardiola s three seasons in charge.

But Muller, speaking ahead of Bayern s group stage opener against Rostov, is optimistic Bayern can win Europe s greatest prize for a sixth time under the Italian.

Ancelotti s excellent qualities as a coach will help us, he told a pre-match news con…

Norwich City opener a potential banana skin, accepts Liverpool great Souness

Liverpool s Premier League opener against Norwich City on Friday is a potential banana skin as the Canaries will be motivated to cause an upset, according to Reds great Graeme Souness.

Manchester City pipped Liverpool to the Premier League title by a single point last season, meaning the Reds stellar efforts domestically went unrewarded.

They start all over again at home to promoted Norwich, as they look to pick up where they left off last season.

Liverpool s record against Norwich in recent times suggests goals are to be expected, as the Reds have scored five times in four of their past six encounters with the Canaries.

But Norwich, who attracted praise for their stylish brand of football as they won the Championship under Daniel Farke last season, will …

Paris Saint-Germain 1-2 Manchester United: Rashford rescues Red Devils again

Marcus Rashford was Manchester United s hero at the Parc des Princes once more as his late strike secured a 2-1 victory over Paris Saint-Germain in Champions League Group H on Tuesday.

England international Rashford drilled home a stoppage-time penalty as United claimed a 3-1 win at PSG in the second leg of the last 16 in 2018-19, ensuring they progressed to the quarter-finals on away goals.

Just as they did on that occasion, Ole Gunnar Solskjaer s men scored first. Bruno Fernandes tucked home a re-taken penalty after Keylor Navas stepped off his line to save the midfielder s first attempt.

Anthony Martial s own goal restored parity but Rashford returned to haunt PSG when he fired a fine finish into the bottom-left corner from the edge of the box w…

Argentina head coach Lionel Scaloni has praised the work of Gerardo Martino and said he expects a tough test when his side take on Mexico in Texas.

Martino guided Argentina to two Copa America finals before stepping down in July 2016 and is now in charge of Mexico, via a spell with Major League Soccer side Atlanta United.

Liverpool to step up Luis Diaz interest?

Liverpool are set to step up their interest signing Luis Diaz from FC Porto next month, according to reports in Portugal (via ). They had the chance to experience Diaz s quality over the two matches the two teams played in the Champions League group stage, and it seems the Reds boss Jurgen Klopp was satisfied with what he saw.

Preferring to play on the left, the winger is also capable of doing a good job on the right flank, and his services would surely be extremely valuable to Liverpool during the winter, with Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah both set to leave for the African Cup of Nations. Further more, at the age of 24, his arrival would be a good step towards rejuvenating the attacking line, with Liverpool s two star forwards turning 30 next year, and Roberto Firmino already t…

Inzaghi: Difficult for Inter to do better, but there´s a long road ahead

Inter head coach Simone Inzaghi said the Nerazzurri can be proud of their efforts after moving top of Serie A, but insisted there is plenty of work still to be done.

Defending champions Inter moved a point clear of city rivals Milan at the Serie A summit following a 4-0 rout of Cagliari at San Siro on Sunday.

Lautaro Martinez scored twice – and missed a penalty – while Alexis Sanchez and Hakan Calhanoglu were also on target for high-flying Inter.

It was a dominant display as Inter enjoyed a whopping 75.2 per cent of the possession, registered 24 shots and, but for the heroics of Cagliari goalkeeper Alessio Cragno, they could easily have extended their winning margin.

Inter are also through to the knockout stages of the Champions League and will discov…

Tottenham fans stage protest over ticket price increases ahead of Man Utd match

Hundreds of Tottenham supporters staged a protest ahead of the club’s home match against Manchester United over the decision to increase matchday ticket prices for this season.

It was first revealed in July that Spurs planned to raise the price of matchday tickets for the 2023-24 campaign, a decision heavily criticised by Tottenham Hotspur Supporters’ Trust.

THST unveiled plans on August 1 to demonstrate against the increase ahead of Manchester United’s visit and a large group of fans gathered outside the stadium at 3.45pm with banners held up urging the club to reverse its decision.

Morata content with bench role if it means Spain go all the way

Alvaro Morata would be content to start each of Spain s World Cup games on the substitutes bench if it meant La Roja won the tournament.

Atletico Madrid striker Morata has come off the bench in both of his country s games in Qatar so far, scoring in the win over Costa Rica and the draw with Germany.

Those four points mean Luis Enrique s side need only a point against Japan on Thursday to qualify for the knockout stage.

Should he not be selected in the starting XI for that match, Morata insists he will have no complaints and will gladly cheer his team-mates on.

At club level you ve got more time to train, more space, and obviously, you want to play, he told Onda Cero. But here, I can assure you that it doesn t bother to me at all [to be a substitute].
