In what will go down as arguably the greatest achievement in sport, Leicester City have been crowned Premier League champions.
From 5000-1 outsiders after almost being relegated in 2014-15, Leicester remarkably sealed the title thanks to Chelsea s 2-2 draw at home to second-placed Tottenham on Monday.
Leicester seven points clear atop the table with two matches remaining upstaged cashed-up Manchester City, Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester United to etch their names into footballing folklore.
And the plaudits followed late on Monday as past and present players, as well as clubs across the globe, joined in the celebrations with Claudio Ranieri s men.
Leicester City have won the Premier League. The biggest sporting shock of my lifetime, and it s only my team.…
Arsenal defender Per Mertesacker says he is happy with his decision to move from Werder Bremen to the Emirates last year.
The German admitted he was forced to rush the massive decision due to Arsenal s last-minute approach, yet despite this Mertesacker said he is still very happy at his new club.
I m glad I made this step, he told reporters. It came pretty sudden and I had to decide quickly. I was looking forward to a lot of things that came true. It was very important to me that my family feels well, and that is the case.
Mertesacker will represent Germany at Euro 2012 and is hoping the side can use their recent matches with Group B rivals Portugal, in particular, to their advantage in Ukraine and Poland.
We had some encounters against Portugal, he s…
Socceroos coach Holger Osieck praised his men following their 1-1 draw with Japan in Asian World Cup qualifying at Suncorp Stadium on Tuesday.
Australia were reduced to 10 men in the 55th minute of the match in Brisbane when Matt Milligan was controversially shown his second yellow card.
And their task became harder still when Atsuto Uchida put the visitors ahead 1-0 ten minutes later.
But the Socceroos held on to take a point after Luke Wilkshire converted a penalty in the 70th minute.
German Osieck, who took over as Socceroos coach in August 2010, was impressed with his team s resilience in fighting back to earn a draw.
What our team delivered tonight was unbelievable, he said.
It s hard to describe how they did that, how they managed…
Peter Stoger was glad to see an end to Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang s transfer saga and hopes Borussia Dortmund can narrow their focus to on-field matters.
Aubameyang completed his long-awaited move to Arsenal on deadline day, the Gunners parting with a club-record £56million for his services.
Dortmund replaced the Gabon international with the loan signing of Chelsea s Michy Batshuayi whom Stoger has suggested will go straight into the starting XI for Friday s trip to Cologne.
To complete the transfer triangle, Arsenal offloaded Olivier Giroud to Chelsea, but with the window now shut, Stoger hopes a good deal of the media furore will die down heading into the business end of 2017-18.

Portuguese newspaper that Marseille are readying summer bid for Sporting Lisbon winger Diego Capel.
The French giants were hoping to sign the Spaniard in the January transfer window, but after their bid was rejected they instead recruited Modou Sougou.
Nevertheless, considering that star forward Andre Ayew is widely tipped to leave Stade Velodrome in the summer, OM are set to return for the talented winger.
Diego Capel has a deal until June 2016 at Estadio Jose Alvalade and a release clause of €30 million, but he is likely to be available for lot less due to club s serious financial problems.
The 25-year-old was paid just €3.5 million when he arrived from Sevilla in the summer of 2011, so the Lions should still be able to make a nice profit.
Spain s Euro 2008 hero Xavi Hernandez scored a brace as Barcelona reeled off their seventh consecutive league win, thrashing promoted Malaga 4-1 on Saturday, though racism directed at Samuel Eto o marred the game.
It was a bitter-sweet night for the Catalonian club because though they shot to the top of the Spanish league table, monkey cries aimed at Eto o proved a low point and he was whistled when he was substituted late in the game.
It was not the first time that Barcelona s star striker had received such treatment in a Spanish stadium.
In February 2006, Eto o had wanted to leave the pitch in a 2-0 victory against Real Zaragaoza when monkey cries were given in his direction but he continued the match after being persuaded by the referee and team-mates.

Inter boss Simone Inzaghi was not pleased with his side s performance in their 2-1 win away from home against Lecce, saying a team with title aspirations can not be relying on a 94th-minute winner.
The Italian giants – who had the best goal difference in Serie A last season (plus 52) – opened the scoring just 81 seconds in, when loan signing Romelu Lukaku headed home Matteo Darmian s cross from point-blank range.
Inter controlled 70 per cent of the possession in the first half and appeared good value for their lead, but the entire complexion of the contest changed two minutes into the second half when Assan Ceesay tucked home his left-foot finish low and hard across Inter goalkeeper Samir Handanovic after a slick counter-attack.
The 1-1 score would hold until…
Sepp Blatter denies giving Argentina an easy draw at the 2014 World Cup, but claims he has witnessed fixes at UEFA level through the use of cold and hot balls .
Argentina were pitted against Nigeria, Iran and Bosnia-Herzegovina in Brazil two years ago, but the disgraced former FIFA president denied there was an intention to give the two-time world champions a favourable group.
However, Blatter alleges to have witnessed premeditated draws by Europe s governing body, with refrigerated balls used to rig the outcome.
The [2014 World Cup] draw was clean until the last detail, the 80-year-old said in an interview with Argentine publication La Nacion.
I never touched the balls, which was something that others had to do. Of course, it can be signalled, by heati…
