Corinthians improve Tevez offer

Corinthians will entice Manchester City with a bonus clause in an improved bid for Carlos Tevez, according to a report in Lancenet.

An initial bid of 40 million Euros for the Argentine international was rejected by City earlier this week.

However, Brazilian Serie A side Corinthians, where Tevez played from 2003 to 2006, have made another push for the 27-year-old s signature.

Brazilian football publication Lancenet reports that on top of the 40 million Euro transfer fee, a bonus clause has been added to the proposal which will see City receive an unspecified fee if Tevez’s stint at the club proves successful in terms of results, marketing and shirt sales.

Corinthians have given City a deadline of Sunday to answer to their offer as the Brazilian transfer…

Eredivisie: NEC 2 Excelsior 0

A Melvin Platje brace guided NEC Nijmegen to a 2-0 win over Excelsior in the Eredivisie on Monday.

It was NEC manager Alex Pastoor s first game in charge against his old club, which he guided to promotion from the Eerste Divisie in the 2009/10 season.

Dutch striker Platje opened the scoring in the 70th minute, before adding another nine minutes later to help NEC record their first win of the campaign and move into fifth on the table.

The loss leaves Excelsior bottom in the league standings, with John Lammers side yet to earn a point after two fixtures.

Comolli blames Henderson signing for Liverpool exit

Former Liverpool director of football Damien Comolli believes the decision to sign Jordan Henderson may have cost him his job.

Comolli officially left Anfield by mutual consent in 2012 citing family reasons, although rumours suggested he was shown the door over failings in the transfer market.

The Frenchman now claims he was sacked and feels the initial negative reaction to the signing of Henderson now Liverpool vice-captain was behind his dismissal.

When we signed Jordan Henderson, he got so much criticism, I got so much criticism, he said at the Web Summit in Dublin.

I was never told why I was sacked but I was led to believe it was because we signed Jordan Henderson, and the owners were convinced he was not good enough.

Henderson reportedly c…

Borussia Dortmund v Wolfsburg: Hummels transfer request disrupts hosts´ preparation

Borussia Dortmund were rocked by the news that Mats Hummels wants to leave the club for rivals Bayern Munich ahead of Saturday s Bundesliga encounter with Wolfsburg.

Dortmund still have a small chance to catch Bayern Munich in the Bundesliga table trailing the leaders by seven points with three games to go but the German title will be the last thing on their mind following Hummels announcement.

Thomas Tuchel s men s will be keen to end the Bundesliga season on a high, though, and prepare in the best way possible for the upcoming DFB-Pokal final against Bayern.

They are unbeaten in the Bundesliga since the 2-1 defeat at the hands of Cologne in December, winning 11 of their 14 matches since.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Ilkay Gundogan are expected to retur…

Maximilian Beister on trial with Chicago Fire

Chicago’s Daily Herald is reporting that former Hamburger SV striker Maximilian Beister has been on trial with Chicago Fire.

The 26-year-old has struggled for playing time since leaving the Red Shorts in 2015, enjoying somewhat disappointing spells with Mainz, 1860 Munich and Melbourne Victory.

He has been a free agent since his contract at Mainz expired in June and is now fighting for a chance to sign for the MLS outfit.

Chicago Fire enjoyed a bright start to the new season, climbing to fourth in the Eastern Conference, but a four-match losing run is threatening to ruin their campaign.

Head coach Veljko Paunovic has two very good forwards in Nemanja Nikolic and David Accam, but he clearly plans to further reinforce his front line.

Premier League rivals Tottenham and Manchester City have been pitted against one another in the Champions League quarter-finals.

Tottenham

Starting with the hosts, picking up a 2-0 win over Crystal Palace on the unveiling of their new home, Mauricio Pochettino will be calling for his side to build on that result. In a real battle to once again secure a top four finish in the Premier League, Spurs booked their spot in the quarter-finals of this year s Champions League after coming past Bundesliga heavyweights Borrusia Dortmund last month. If the Lilywhites are to gain an early advantage in just their second time in the last eight, the Pochettino will know that his side must improve on their recent …

Over 1.5 goals at Aldershot vs Wrexham 4/11 for Tuesday’s National League matchup

Market: Over 1.5 goals

Odds: 4/11 @

Hoping to find a boost on their travels in midweek, Wrexham will make the trip to the Recreation Ground when they face off against Aldershot on Tuesday night.

Starting with the hosts, suffering late heartbreak on the road on Saturday, Aldershot find themselves in the midst of what is a real National League crisis. While the Blues might have managed to extend on their fifth-tier status with time to spare last season, Mark Molesley s side are now tipped as one of the leading relegation picks this time around. Last seen over the weekend when getting hit with a late 2-1 defeat away at Barnet, the Hampshire-based outfit are already four points adrift of safety. Gaining a reputation for their worrying issues at the back, Aldershot h…

Messi makes playing for Barcelona easier – Dembele

Lionel Messi is the perfect team-mate in attack because of the extra opposition attention he occupies, according to fellow Barcelona star Ousmane Dembele.

Argentina great Messi and France forward Dembele have struck up a successful understanding in the latter s second season at Camp Nou, sharing 43 goals between them in all competitions.

The former Borussia Dortmund man is beginning to plug the hole left by Neymar, who departed for Paris Saint-Germain in 2017 due to a reported desire to break free of Messi s shadow.

Dembele, in contrast, is more than happy for his captain to retain the burden of responsibility.

It s great, he makes football easier, Dembele told Barca s website.

I give him the ball and he does incredible things. When he s on th…

Phillips hopeful of World Cup inclusion for England after racing back from shoulder surgery

Kalvin Phillips hopes to make England s squad for the World Cup after recovering as fast as I possibly can from shoulder surgery.

The Manchester City midfielder left Leeds United in the last transfer window to join Pep Guardiola s side, but he has only played 14 minutes for the Premier League champions this season.

That has largely been down to a shoulder issue that required surgery in September and left him as a doubt to make Gareth Southgate s 26-man squad for the World Cup.

Guardiola confirmed Phillips will be among the substitutes against Chelsea in the EFL Cup on Wednesday, though, and the 26-year-old hopes a timely recovery will see him make Southgate s travelling party.

The shoulder s perfectly fine now, Phillips told BBC Radio 5 Live.

Ancelotti denies Benzema being rested ahead of World Cup

Real Madrid head coach Carlo Ancelotti has quelled suggestions that Karim Benzema is unavailable for club action in order to keep him fit for the World Cup.

The France international is set to represent the defending champions in Qatar but enters the tournament with a lack of minutes, having last appeared domestically against Elche on October 19.

Those fitness issues will once again keep Benzema absent from Thursday s trip to Cadiz, the final game before Qatar 2022, where Madrid are looking to bounce back after a surprise defeat to Rayo Vallecano on Monday.

Benzema s recent absence has not resulted in any concerns that he could be missing for France, leading to suggestions that he may just be being rested to ensure he does not get injured ahead of the tournament.<…
